The cable is attached to the unit and coils onto it when you have finished. Nothing to carry and nothing to leave in the boot, which is what most people want on a driveway they park on every day.
A socket on the wall, and you plug in your own cable. The unit is smaller and tidier on the wall, it suits a shared or on-street parking spot, and it takes whatever connector your next car uses.

Common questions
Can the charger run on solar alone?+
On a bright day, largely yes. A solar-aware charger sends spare generation to the car rather than the grid, and will wait for the sun if you let it. In practice most charging ends up a mix of solar and cheap-rate overnight electricity.
Do I need solar panels to have a charger fitted?+
No. We fit standalone chargers, and if solar is something you might do later we can size the electrical work now so it is ready.
How long does it take, and will the power be off?+
Usually half a day, depending on the length of the cable run. The supply is off for a short window while the charger is connected, and we agree when that happens before we start.
Will my consumer unit need upgrading?+
Sometimes. Older boards occasionally need work before a charger can be added, and some properties need earthing changes. We check both at the survey and put any of it in the quote, so nothing appears on the day.
